Clockpetal is a tall flowering plant whose twelve petals change position as Nullhaven's local signal day advances.
Timekeeping
The flower has twelve large petals arranged around a ringed center. One petal lifts at each local hour while the petal opposite it lowers, creating a rough botanical clock.
Clockpetals respond to the most stable public time signal they can detect. A group pointing in several directions is an early warning that nearby clocks disagree.
Biology
Narrow leaves collect ordinary sunlight while the dark flower center detects repeating pulses. At night all petals close into a cone and the root stores the final signal of the day.
Public planting
The Transit Authority plants Clockpetals near stations as a backup time display. Schools use smaller varieties to teach students how signal districts differ.
Limitations
The plant is not precise enough for appointments and may stop during heavy static rain. Residents still use printed schedules for official travel.
