The Whispering Flower is a smiling potted plant known for its soft voice and its later transformation into the first widely recorded Stage 4 void mutation.
Discovery
The Whispering Flower first appeared as a cheerful potted plant with seven pale petals, a blue face, and a single turquoise leaf. Residents named it for the faint whispering sound it makes when someone enters the room.
After exposure to the atmosphere of Void 3875, its petals folded inward and the flower head separated into several eye-shaped organs during the following observation period.
The photographs published in the first issue of The Void Times became the best-known evidence of rapid void mutation.
Voice and sensory organs
Before mutation, the flower produces a quiet layered voice from the dark center of its mouth. Most whispers are too soft to record, but gardeners report short greetings, names, and warnings about changes in nearby light.
After mutation, each eye-shaped organ responds to a different signal: visible movement, electrical current, printed text, and nearby plant growth. The organs rarely point in the same direction unless a black-sun warning is active.
Care
The Whispering Flower requires soil, water, and gentle daylight. Gardeners speak at an ordinary volume and wait for the flower to finish whispering before moving its pot.
After mutation, botanists cover printed labels near the pot because the text-sensitive organ may remain fixed on one word and stop monitoring the room.
Scientific importance
The specimen led to the five-stage mutation scale and the rule that newly arrived Earth plants remain in quarantine for three local mornings.
